If I Ruled the World

As a designer I've learned that: the taste of the client is not always the taste of the designer. They actually clash more often than not. But, guess what? They're not paying the designer for their taste. They're paying them for their talent and their ability to accomplish the job to the customer's satisfaction.


I do not always like what I create but I am satisfying my customer and the customer is always right.

Now, trying to break into a completely new field, I wonder if I can apply the same principles to my new style of client: the musician. What is it that I do? you ask. I'm a booking agent, an event coordinator, a make-shift manager, liaison between producers and artists? If that position actually had a name... Despite my experience, I am not even sure what it is that I want to "be when I grow up." I just know that I'd like to do it all. See how it would feel.. Why not try my hand at anything? Every thing. So far I have not failed, and I don't plan on it.

There is something exhilarating about jumping into new and unfamiliar responsibilities, challenging myself, and achieving success. I love to step outside of my comfort zone. By accomplishing these new tasks, I am also EXPANDING my comfort zone. Which in turn, invites me to step outside once more. An everlasting cycle that spins outward towards the universe instead of back around again.

And I won't break the cycle until the world is my comfort zone. Until I've seen and done it all.
