I keep getting this question when people ask for my email address or see my site URL...
Well in short, a beatnik was an artist that followed the Beat Generation of the 1950s. Basically a group of non-conforming artists; social outcasts that were proud to be different and use their art to express their emotion and social angst.
You know, the black turtle neck & frenchie beret cap wearing, finger snapping, bongo playing, "heeeey man", schmoke & a pancake people lol
Beatniks made it cool for the Hippies to be Hippies in the 60s. Yeah man, they started it all.
And I've recently learned that The Beatles got their name because of the Beat generation.
